Due to the impact of the CoVID-19 pandemic, original plans for a face-to-face kick-off meeting in Birmingham had to be changed and instead, a virtual event was held on the 18th of March on ZOOM. The focus of this first meeting was to refine the research and implementation plans of the individual work packages, and to integrated those plans across the key work programmes around the design and implementation of the data infrastructure, the development of the the priority science objectives and establishing evaluation and quality assurance & control processes. As part of the kick-off meeting, the setup and composition of a user group was discussed as well, which will provide vital user input and feedback from the UK atmospheric modelling community throughout the design and implementation phase, and help with testing the Emission Modelling System from an early stage. Despite the challenges presented by the pandemic, the team has started the project with a lot of enthusiasm and is working full steam towards the first key deliverables.
